Blizzard to Develop for Xbox 360 Successor?

Blizzard’s Rob Pardo admits to talks with Microsoft about the next console after 360.

During the Luminaries Lunch held at GDC, Blizzard’s VP of Game Design, Rob Pardo, commented that the World of Warcraft developer had already sat down with Microsoft and engaged in talks relating to the Xbox 360’s successor. GamesIndustry.biz attended the event and surmised that Pardo’s acknowledgement of talks with Microsoft could possibly confirm the development plans for a follow-up console.

Pardo said that so far there’s been a good reason why Blizzard titles such as World of Warcraft haven’t appeared on home consoles - the hardware hasn’t been specifically designed to suit some genres.

“There are are so many games we make at Blizzard that don’t take to consoles because they don’t support the input device, and you end up with crappy ports. That’s why RTS games never do well on consoles,” he said.

Other key names at the event included Junction Point Studios’ Warren Spector and Acclaim’s David Perry.
